HDR Toning Experiment
I revisited my last location in the day so I had more light to work with as some of the photos from my last shoot came out too dark. I also wanted to see if a location would look more abandoned if photographed at night or if photographed in the day. However, the main focus of this shoot is to test out Feijen's HDR technique.
I took three different photographs with three different exposures. I used the meter reading to tell me my exposures - I took one with a balanced exposure, one with a +2 exposure, and one with a -2 exposure. With other photos, I took them with a +1 and -1 exposure.
The photo above shows the photo that had a -2 exposure. I edited this photo with the HDR toning tool, along with other adjustments, in photoshop. I think the final photoshopped image looks better than the original as the colours are brighter and the photo looks more appealing - the different lines in the photo are also more clear and defined. The colours in this photo have been enhanced, creating a brighter image and giving it more of a surreal look, which can, in some cases, be a negative consequence of using HDR as all areas of the image are well exposed. However, I think that the final photoshopped images look better than the original images as they are more interesting than the original. |
